Composer José Javier Peña Aguayo began his musical studies at the Escuela Libre de Música, studied composition at the Peabody Institute of Music and the Juilliard School and holds a Phd. from the Universitat de València.
His symphonic, chamber and interdisciplinary works have been performed in halls and spaces at festival, series and seasons in the Americas and Europe, with commissions from the Massachussetts International Festival of the Arts, the Neanderland Biennale, the Institut Valencià de la Música, Ensems Music Festival, Val Tidone Competitions and the Godella International Chamber Music Festival, among others..
He received awards and prizes by the Virginia Carty Dellilo Competition, ASCAP, BMI, the Corporación de las Artes Musicales de Puerto Rico and twice in the Concorso Edigio Carella. He was founding member and Director of Ars-On (arte abierto) –contemporary music concert series with resident ensemble and guet lectures– and Sonamens Puerto Rico.
He has worked as a professor in the conservatories in Sagunto, Alicante and Escuela TAI, and is currently Professor of Composition at the Castellón Conservatory of Music.
His academic work is published with Sociedad Latina de Comunicación Social and Editorial Académica Española, and his music by Perifèria and Bèrben.
